Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that in a disturbing turn of events, gunmen have stormed a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, kidnapping six worshippers during an early-morning service on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, heightening concerns about escalating insecurity in the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers invaded the church premises, taking the worshippers away to an unknown location. This latest abduction comes on the heels of another incident four days prior, where a couple was kidnapped at Ilu-Abo community in Akure North LGA, further underscoring the growing security challenges in Ondo State.
The state has witnessed an uptick in gunmen attacks since the beginning of the year, sparking fears and anxiety among residents. The police have confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Jimoh Abayomi stating that one of the abducted victims has been rescued, and an investigation is underway.
This latest attack follows a similar incident in June 2022, where gunmen attacked St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, leaving over 40 worshippers dead. The perpetrators of that attack, believed to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), are currently facing trial.
The Ondo State government has been urged to take concrete steps to address the security situation, with many calling for increased vigilance and cooperation with security agencies to prevent further attacks.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
