Awarenessinfo media has gathered that in a bold declaration, Kabiru Turaki, the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence that the party will bounce back stronger in the 2027 elections, fielding candidates for all elective seats.
Speaking at the national executive committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Turaki emphasized that all hope is not lost for the opposition party, stressing that the leadership is working tirelessly to reconcile internal differences and strengthen the party.
The NEC meeting, initially postponed to allow for reconciliation talks with the faction backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aims to fortify the PDP and safeguard Nigeria's multi-party democracy.
Turaki revealed that the PDP board of trustees (BoT), led by Adolphus Wabara, has convened a meeting involving both factions to iron out differences. "Conceivable efforts are being made to ensure PDP is on the ballot in all elections in 2027," Turaki said, assuring members that the party remains a viable platform for aspiring candidates.
Wabara, while lamenting the party's internal instability, warned that time is running out to resolve the crisis, urging the reconciliation committee to expedite their report.
Despite challenges, Fred Agbedi, leader of the PDP caucus in the house of representatives, affirmed the commitment of remaining lawmakers to the party's survival. "Our numbers are waning, but those of us left are holding on," he said.
Tony Azigbemi, Edo PDP chairman, reaffirmed state party leaders' loyalty to Turaki's national working committee, signaling a united front ahead of the 2027 elections. The PDP aims to regain lost ground and present a formidable challenge in Nigeria's electoral landscape.
