'Resolving The Power Supply Challenges Is My Priority For Now' - Adelabu Speaks, Mutes On Oyo State Guber Aspiration

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu

Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that a recent press conference in Abuja, Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria's Minister of Power, has emphasized that resolving the country's power supply challenges is his top priority, sidestepping questions about his potential resignation to contest the Oyo governorship election.

Adelabu, who has been vocal about his intentions to run for the governorship of Oyo State in 2027, is among several political appointees eyeing elective offices in the upcoming elections. President Bola Tinubu has directed all appointees seeking to contest the 2027 elections to resign by March 31.

Speaking at the press conference, Adelabu stated, "What matters to me most now is this job that I am doing as the honourable minister of power. I am excelling on the job, and that is my priority for now, tackling foreseen, known, and unforeseen challenges in the power sector."

The minister's gubernatorial ambitions date back to 2019 when he left his position as deputy governor (operations) at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to contest the governorship election.

Although he lost the election to Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adelabu continued to pursue his aspirations, defecting to the Accord Party (AP) in 2022 and later returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

As the March 31 deadline approaches, speculation surrounds Adelabu's plans, with many wondering if he will prioritize his gubernatorial bid or continue to focus on his role as Minister of Power.

Adelabu's response has done little to quell the speculation, saying, "Resolving the power supply challenges is my priority for now. We have between now and March 31, if I am interested in the gubernatorial contest in Oyo state. It is all about service, whether at the national or subnational level."

With Nigeria's power sector facing numerous challenges, Adelabu's focus on addressing these issues is seen as a crucial step towards improving the country's electricity supply.

As the nation watches closely, one thing is certain – the outcome of Adelabu's decision will have significant implications for the future of Nigeria's power sector and the country's political landscape.
