Awarenessinfo media has gathered that in a bold move, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced plans to parade the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, despite being stripped of the title by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board.
The controversy surrounds the January 18 final between Senegal and Morocco, which Senegal won 1-0 after extra time. However, CAF's Appeals Board ruled that Senegal had breached tournament regulations by walking off the pitch in protest of a late penalty decision, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.
FSF President Abdoulaye Fall has described the ruling as "unprecedented administrative robbery in the history of our sport" and vowed to fight the decision. "Senegal will not bend the knee and will not compromise its values. Our fight now transcends the football pitch," Fall said.
The FSF has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking to overturn the CAF ruling. The trophy parade is scheduled to take place before Senegal's international friendly against Peru at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday.
This development has sparked intense debate, with some questioning CAF's interpretation of its regulations. The outcome of Senegal's appeal to CAS remains uncertain, with the process expected to take several months.
Senegal's defiance has garnered support from fans and players, who believe the team was unfairly stripped of its title. The situation highlights the complexities and challenges of governing international football.
