Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that in a significant operation showcasing the country's resolve to combat insecurity, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a female courier transporting a substantial cache of ammunition in Kano.
The operation, conducted at approximately 3 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, was a direct result of actionable intelligence on the movement of illicit arms and ammunition through the state.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was intercepted while conveying 884 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, believed to be destined for bandits operating in Zamfara state, originating from Plateau.
Disturbingly, the suspect was accompanied by her 10-year-old daughter at the time of the arrest, highlighting the heinous nature of the crime and the exploitation of innocent lives in the illicit arms trade.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect had been contracted to transport the ammunition to Zamfara, with a payment of ₦50,000 received as an advance, and an additional sum promised upon successful delivery. Further interrogation disclosed that she had undertaken similar assignments on two previous occasions.
A security source, quoted by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, commended the efforts of the troops and DSS, stating, "The suspect was intercepted following actionable intelligence regarding the movement of ammunition through Kano. A total of 884 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered during the operation."
The suspect and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities assure the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider network behind the ammunition supply chain and identify other collaborators involved in the illicit arms trafficking operation.
This development underscores the Nigerian military's commitment to disrupting the supply of illicit arms and ammunition to criminal elements, a crucial step towards restoring peace and security in the affected regions.
The operation is part of broader efforts by Nigerian security agencies to tackle the rising tide of banditry and insurgency in the northern regions, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and cooperation from the public in combating these threats.
As investigations unfold, authorities remain tight-lipped on further details, assuring the public of their resolve to bring perpetrators to justice.
