Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that in a dramatic turn of events, the Adamawa state house of assembly has been rocked by the mass defection of 15 lawmakers, including the speaker, Bathiya Wesley, and his deputy, Buba Jijiwa, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The lawmakers cited the "lingering crisis" in the PDP as the reason for their decision to quit the party.
The development has sent shockwaves across the state's political landscape, with speculation ramping up that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is set to follow suit and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources close to the matter reveal that the lawmakers have already made the move to the APC, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
According to eyewitnesses, the speaker announced the defections during Wednesday's plenary session, stating that the lawmakers were grateful to the PDP for providing them with the platform to contest and win their elections.
The defecting lawmakers include Kefas Calvin, Bulus Geoffrey, Haruna Jilantikiri, Kefas Emmanuel, Ahmed Belel, Moses Zah, Kate Mamuno, Pwamwakeno Mackondo, Adun Alaba, Bulus Kantom, Musa Kallamu, and Japhet Hammanjabu. Abubakar Abdullahi, who represents Girei state constituency, had earlier resigned from the PDP on Tuesday.
The move is seen as a significant boost to the APC in the state, with Fintiri's anticipated defection expected to further strengthen the party's grip on Adamawa politics.
The governor recently hosted APC leaders in the state to an iftar at the government house in Yola, where he emphasized the need for dialogue, cooperation, and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable development in the state.
As the political drama unfolds, stakeholders are watching with bated breath to see how the developments will shape the future of Adamawa politics.
