Awarenessinfo media has gathered the news that in a significant development in Nigerian politics, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The news in detail entails that Obi registered as a member of the party on Saturday at Agulu ward 2 in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the flag-off of the party's membership and mobilisation exercise.
Speaking at the event, Obi announced his intention to challenge the Electoral Act 2026 in court, alleging that the legislation was hastily passed to influence the outcome of the 2027 elections.
"All the laws being hurriedly churned out now are simply aimed at enabling them to snatch the 2027 presidential election and run away with it," Obi stated.
The former Labour Party candidate emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should focus on conducting elections rather than dictating how political parties elect their candidates.
"INEC has no reason to dictate how parties should elect their candidates. They now choose to abandon their work as referee and then want to teach a coach how to select their players," Obi said.
Obi's decision to join the ADC is seen as a strategic move, with the south-east geopolitical zone working together to make an impact. Notable persons from the zone are expected to join him in the ADC. "The south-east geopolitical zone is working as a family, and notable persons in the zone are in the ADC," Obi revealed.
The election of 2027 is shaping up to be a crucial contest, with Obi vowing to challenge the status quo. "We want to register as many people as possible because the election of 2027 will be against bad leadership," he declared.
Obi's announcement has sparked widespread interest and debate, with many Nigerians eager to see how this development will shape the country's political landscape.
Obi's decision to challenge the Electoral Act 2026 has raised questions about the legitimacy of the legislation. The Act, which was passed in February 2026, has been criticized for its perceived bias towards the ruling party. Obi's move is seen as a bold attempt to ensure that the 2027 elections are free and fair.
As Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve, one thing is certain - the stage is set for a highly contested election in 2027.
With Obi's joining of the ADC, the opposition is gaining momentum, and the ruling party is facing increasing pressure to deliver on its promises.
