| Iran's Ambassador to Nigeria Mahdavi Raja |
Awarenessinfo Media has gathered that Iran's ambassador to Nigeria, Mahdavi Raja, has defended his country's recent missile and drone strikes on US military bases in Gulf countries, stating that Iran considers it within its rights to target these bases as they are being used to launch attacks on Iranian soil.
The strikes, which have been ongoing since February 28, have targeted multiple US military bases in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, as retaliation for the US and Israel's joint strikes on Iran. Raja emphasized that Iran's actions are defensive and lawful, focusing on military targets only.
"We have very good neighbouring relationships with the Persian Gulf countries, and we respect these friendly relations, but they are the host of the military bases of the United States," Raja said. "And from those bases now they are doing military operations against our country... So this is our legitimate right, to defend ourselves and to attack those bases from which we are receiving the attacks by the United States".
The situation has escalated tensions in the Middle East, with Gulf countries activating joint air-defence systems and reconnaissance flights across regional airspace. The US has deployed the Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, naval ships, and military aircraft, including F-35 multirole stealth fighters, to the region.
Iran's arsenal includes ballistic missiles with ranges of up to 2,000 km and Shahed drones, which have been used in the strikes. The country has also warned that it will fire on any ship trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy corridor.
The international community has expressed concern over the escalating conflict, with the UN Security Council urging restraint and calling for an immediate ceasefire. The US and Israel have justified their actions as self-defense, while Iran insists its actions are legitimate self-defense.
