Panic In Ondo As Gunmen Abduct Couple During Community Invasion

Awarenessinfomedia couple was abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ilu-Abo community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday, February 20, 2026. The incident occurred around 9:45 pm when the couple returned from their shop, and the assailants struck at the frontage of their residence.


The gunmen emerged from a nearby bush and whisked the victims away to an unknown destination, throwing the community into panic. A neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, was shot during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.


Jimoh Abayomi, the Ondo police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that Adebowale Lawal, the commissioner of police, has ordered the deployment of tactical and conventional operatives to the area. 


"The commissioner of police has deployed tactical teams alongside conventional operatives to comb the surrounding bushes and adjoining areas with a view to rescuing the abducted couple unhurt and apprehending the perpetrators," Abayomi said.


Concerted efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the victims and bring those responsible to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid the investigation.


This incident comes amid a spike in violent incidents across the state. On February 18, gunmen invaded a palace and killed Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North LGA. 


On the same day, two persons were killed and five others injured following violence that marred the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Idanre.
