Oyo Police Foil Attack on Community, 'Kill Two Bandits' in Gun Battle




Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that Oyo state police command has announced the killing of two suspected bandits during a gun battle with operatives in Elebe village, Aleniboro area, via Irawo mine


The incident occurred on Sunday, as police received intelligence that a group of about 10 armed men were planning to attack the community under the cover of darkness.


According to Ayanlade Olayinka, the police spokesperson in the state, the suspects had concealed themselves in a farm settlement within the village, armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns, and locally made pistols


The divisional police officer (DPO) in Tede division informed the commissioner of police, Femi Haruna, who then ordered the deployment of additional personnel to the area.


The police, in collaboration with members of Agbekoya and local hunters, mobilized to the hideout. "On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, resulting in a gun duel," the statement reads. "In the course of the exchange, two of the bandits were neutralised, while others escaped with suspected bullet wounds".


The police recovered several items from the scene, including:
- A locally made pistol
- Cartridges
- Two expended 7.62mm AK-47 shells
- Substances suspected to be Indian hemp
- A bottle believed to be containing a mixed drink.


The police spokesperson said the area has been secured, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.


The successful operation has brought relief to the community, which had been living in fear of attacks. The police command's swift response demonstrates its commitment to protecting lives and property.
