Former President Obasanjo Calls for Increased Student Enrolment and Tech Reforms in NOUN




Awarenessinfomedia has gathered that the Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the need for increased student enrolment and modern technology reforms at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).


Speaking at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo urged the university management to prioritize artificial intelligence integration and restore the law programme.


Obasanjo highlighted the importance of academic advancement through innovation and technology, urging NOUN to expand access to education. The former president's call comes as the university seeks to enhance its global competitiveness and provide quality education to Nigerians.


Olufemi Peters, the immediate past vice-chancellor, revealed that NOUN has made significant strides in integrating AI into its academic content, earning recognition from international educational bodies. The university currently has approximately 300,000 registered students, with around 190,000 actively engaged.


Uduma Uduma, the newly appointed vice-chancellor, pledged to prioritize the revival of the law programme and strengthen ongoing reforms. He expressed gratitude to Obasanjo for his continued support and contributions to NOUN's growth.


The call for reforms at NOUN aligns with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on improved funding, digital learning initiatives, and skill acquisition. With over half of Nigeria's population under 30, the government aims to create an inclusive and equitable education system.
